WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal agents have made a second visit to the
two Iowa farms at the center of a salmonella outbreak and massive
egg recall. Spokeswomen for Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms
said the agents who arrived yesterday worked for the Food and Drug
Administration. It's not clear if the new investigation is the
first step in a criminal probe.
AKRON, Iowa (AP) - Authorities in Plymouth County say a South
Dakota man died after a tree fell on him while he was clearing
brush in northwestern Iowa. Jim Netley (NET'-lee) of Dakota Dunes
was hurt Monday, seven miles east of Akron.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - Police in Cedar Rapids are looking for
a man who threatened to kill a woman with a knife if she didn't
give him the dog she was walking. Clarissa Kleppe told police she
was walking a friend's miniature pinscher/Jack Russell terrier mix
on Monday when the man approached her.
BOONE, Iowa (AP) - A company based in the Czech Republic plans
to build a new agricultural tire plant in Charles City. Officials
at CGS Tyres plan to invest $43 million to build the plant. The
company says it would create 159 jobs.
