OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A monthly report on the health of the economy
in South Dakota and eight other Midwest and Plains states comes out
today. The Mid-America Business Conditions Index is based on
surveys of business leaders and supply managers. The outlook for
the region remained positive last month, but the survey respondents
were less confident about their prospects over the next six months.
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Prosecutors have changed the charges against
an 18-year-old Claire City man accused of having weapons and the
ingredients for making explosives. Joseph Thomas Hansen now faces
two counts of selling, transporting or possessing an explosive
device and one count of possessing substances with the intent to
make a destructive device. He had originally faced a 10-count
indictment.
AKRON, Iowa (AP) - A South Dakota man clearing brush has been
killed by a tree falling on him. Plymouth County sheriff's
authorities say the man was Jim Netley (NET'-lee) of Dakota Dunes.
Netley was hurt in northwestern Iowa, seven miles east of Akron.
VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) - More research money has been flowing to
the University of South Dakota in 2010. The school was awarded
$36.5 million in research money, a 28 percent increase from $29
million in 2009. Vice President for Research Laura Jenski says
there is still room to grow. She says the school is on course to
hit as much as $60 million in research money in four years.
