VERMILLION, S.D. – The annual Vermillion Polar Plunge brings local law enforcement and
community members from across the Vermillion area together to Plunge for a purpose in
support of Special Olympics South Dakota.This year’s event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026, at Old Lumber Company, located
at 15 Court Street. Registration will be at 11:00 a.m., with the Plunge beginning at 1:00 p.m.
New this year, Special Olympics South Dakota is excited to unveil the brand-new “Plungster,” a
custom-built mobile plunge pool trailer.
Participants set their own fundraising goals, create a team, or Plunge individually. Donations are
collected prior to the event for the opportunity to take the icy plunge. A minimum of $100 is
required to participate ($50 for students). High school and college students who participate
could also win a $500 scholarship.
Each year, Special Olympics Polar Plunges are held across the country to raise awareness and
engage communities to this thrilling fundraising event. Funds raised for the Vermillion Polar
Plunge will support year-round sports training, competitions, free health screenings, and antibullying initiatives for more than 3,000 Special Olympics athletes, with no cost to the athletes.
